She made it coast to coast and now actress Eliza Dushku is at home with the Angelenos.

When the temperature tops 100 degrees here, and the Hollywood Hills are shrouded in a noxious haze, the acre of blacktop at the intersection of Melrose and Fairfax is about the last place you want to be.

But in a gauzy miniskirt, tank top, and three-inch heels, actress Eliza Dushku appears unbothered by the heat, even as her companion, a good-looking golden retriever named Max Factor, is tugging at his leash, desperate for a spot of shade.

Dushku's too busy dickering. She wants to buy one of the African masks arranged on the hood of an old Pontiac, and she wants it at the right price.

"It's from Cameroon?" she asks the vendor. "Will you take $30?"

Dushku, 25, has been bargain-hunting at this weekly flea market called the Melrose Trading Post since she moved to Los Angeles from Watertown eight years ago. Money she's made from two TV series, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Tru Calling," and before that from such films as "Soul Survivors," "Bring It On," and "Bye Bye Love" has been exchanged here for antiques and art.

Eliza Dushku has been tapped to star in Fox's one-hour pilot "Nurses".

"Nurses," from 20th TV, is a comedic drama about the lives and loves of a team of nurses. Dushku will play the lead, a young woman just out of nursing school who joins the hospital run by her father.

Dushku replaces Katheryn Winnick, who originally was cast in the role; the part was recast after the character was taken in a different, more comedic direction. Also cast in the pilot is Jaclyn DeSantis (Paradigm), who will play an experienced nurse going through a bitter divorce.

The project reunites Dushku with Fox and 20th TV following her starring role on "Tru Calling." The "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" alumna will next be seen in the feature "Nobel Son".

Former Slayer Plays Doctor... Well, Nurse.

Eliza Dushku will be donning scrubs for Fox's upcoming series Nurses, says Variety. The series, also known as Philadelphia General is a comedy-drama slated for next season. Dushku plays Eve, the lead character. Dushku is by far best known to genre fans as Faith, the vampire slayer who went over to the dark side and eventually came back in one of the most interesting character arcs ever shown on Buffy and Angel.

She also was the lead in Fox's late Tru Calling, a neat but unloved series about a woman with the power to relive and change the past. Dushku has plenty of acting chops, and hopefully Fox will give this new series a chance so she can show them off to a wider audience.
